Birdwatching Laguna Saladilla is a unique birdwatching experience. The lagoon is a breeding, feeding and resting area for over 30 different bird species.
Laguna Saladilla is a protected Wildlife Reserve and Refuge. It is the most important body of fresh water in the Monte Cristi National Park. There is no other place in the country with the same level of biodiversity. The lagoon is considered the most productive wetlands on earth. The lagoon is a major attraction for birding. It servs as an important breeding, feeding and resting are for over are 30 endemic and migratory bird.
Saladillo flora contains numerous forest and shrub, fruit and herbaceous. It also supports copious aquatic species.
What makes this tour truly special is that a local fisherman will row you around the lagoon in one of the locally made wooden fishing boats.
There are always numerous birds to see at the lagoon, but the best time to see wintering birds is from January to March.
