Isla Cabra is just off the city’s coast and is only reachable by boat. It is a popular destination for day trippers. This is a perfect place to swim, explore, picnic, and camp. The primary beach has many mangrove trees that provide plenty of shade to block the strong sun.
There is a second beach located on the northern side of the island. It is not visited often. The waves are stronger at this beach. There are lots of interesting coral and shells that wash up on the beach.
Other attraction on the are the salt ponds. The Garcia family produces salt on island. You’ll find the ruins of a lighthouse that was built when the dictator Trujillo was in power. Finally, in addition to the many beautiful shells and lots of coral, you’ll see yellow warblers, West Indian Whistling ducks and many other birds.
